COVID-19 will not stop Our Lady of Hope Catholic elementary school from staying up to date with the planned curriculum. Our administration and teaching staff remain connected with students, using technologies like Zoom, Google Classroom and shared resources within the Google Suite. These platforms allow teachers to continue to teach students in a group setting (while at home). Adjusting to distance teaching and distance learning has been a shared obstacle, but we have worked hard to overcome this from the minute stay at home orders were given.
Thank you to all the families that have sent pictures and videos to show how students have taken to learning at home. Our Lady of Students are still able to meet face to face and engage with each other. Students are still able to share with their classmates what they might otherwise share in front of the class in their normal classroom. Being at home, students can share pictures and videos (see our YouTube channel for upcoming content) of their projects and assignments.
Technically, everything is now considered homework. Students have been hard at work on art projects, science projects, book reports, everyday classwork and more! Students shared their gardening projects, growing a butterfly from caterpillar science projects, how they use toys and other items around the house to demonstrate learning math concepts and what books they’ve been reading. Seeing everyone’s current learning environment also adds to the fun.
We miss seeing our students everyday in person, and we know we will see you soon! Until then, we will work around the clock to keep working with students and making the best of our current situation.
