Our Lady of Hope is the only school in the region to offer a school-within-a-school.
The Academy at Our Lady of Hope is for students in grades 6, 7 and 8. Through the academy, students rotate through a roster of classes, similar to that of a high school. This approach will prepare our students for the next phase of their learning. Moreover, teachers focus on a single subject, teaching to their personal strengths.
Within the Academy at Our Lady of Hope, students are grouped by ability level based on various criteria including past academic performance, standardized test scores and teacher assessments. This, along with OLH’s small class size, allows the teachers to meet each students’ individual needs. While all students in the Academy will cover the same curriculum, the pace and depth will vary depending on the grouping.
The departmental roster will allow for the teachers to cover more content and with greater depth. In addition, this approach will allow for an extended science lab so students can more fully benefit from the school’s state-of-the-are lab.
The academy model encourages students to take more responsibility for their own time. Students have more free time and more opportunities to manage assignments and take advantage of school resources like the computer lab.
Small class sizes, more individualized instruction and a high-school styled roster will better prepare students for the academic challenges they face after gradating from grade school.
